The Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee is the largest of Louisiana’s 64 Parish Executive Committees.  Seventy members serve citywide, 14 elected every four years from each of five City Council Districts, A,B,C,D,E.

OPDEC is under the jurisdiction of the Democratic State Central Committee in accordance with state law and the rules of the Democratic National Committee.

 OPDEC’s duties include, but are not limited to: 

OPDEC is required to provide the DSCC with changes in its membership and copies of minutes of official meetings.  Under certain conditions, OPDEC can raise funds, with reports and audits submitted to the Chairperson of the DSCC no later than February 1 of each year covering the period from January 1 through December 31 of the previous year.

OPDEC is required to meet quarterly but on April 3 2008 established a monthly General Membership meeting schedule.

OPDEC includes an Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Rules and By-Laws Committee, Resolutions Committee and Special Activities Committee, with descriptions of each found in the OPDEC By-Laws.
